The first two images depict rhythm although the first one could easily have been photographed straight on to represent pattern. The rhythm in the first image is provided the the light falling on the pattern and the angle and depth of field of the shot.
The rhythm in this second shot is more straight forward. The pattern of the rubber car mat is dynamic enough to qualify this as a 'rhythm' image.
Finally we have a pattern shot of some wall paper. One of the features of the pattern shot is that it completely fills the frame, allowing us to imagine that the pattern may continue on forever beyond the borders of the image.Elements of design
The elements of design we have looked at in this chapter are very important. Ever more frequently, when I look at other photographers work that grabs my attention, I am able to spot one or more of these design patterns. It is now also becoming easier to include design in my own work as these basic shapes and lines are easy to remember and identify.
All shots were taken with a tripod mounted camera.
